I Think I’ve Been Saving The Good Part.
I caught myself doing something the other day.
Everything was fine. Better than fine, actually.
And instead of letting myself enjoy it, I immediately started thinking about everything I still had to do.
The house.
The list.
The things I haven’t finished yet.
The version of my life that apparently needs to exist before I’m allowed to fully exhale.
It was almost like I caught myself feeling too good and thought…
Not yet. You haven’t earned that yet.
We’re strange sometimes.
We’ll carry the weight a little longer just because putting it down feels suspiciously easy.
Somewhere along the way, I think I learned to save feeling good for later.
When everything was handled.
When I had done enough.
When there was nothing left quietly whispering that I should be doing something more productive with my time.
And the ridiculous part?
There is always something else.
Another thing to finish.
Another problem to solve.
Another version of “there” waiting just beyond this one.
So if feeling good has to wait until everything is done…
I could spend my entire life waiting.
And I really don’t want to do that anymore.
Lately, I’ve been letting myself have the moment while it’s still here.
I’ll drink the coffee slowly even though there are things to do.
I’ll choose what I want instead of what would make me feel most productive.
I’ll let a beautiful day be a beautiful day without immediately asking what I did to deserve it.
And maybe this is a little rebellious of me, but—
I’m starting to think feeling good doesn’t need a reason.
Maybe happy and unfinished are allowed to exist together.
Maybe I can want more for my life and still be completely in love with the part I’m living now.
Maybe ease isn’t something waiting for me on the other side of enough.
Maybe I’ve had permission this whole time.
Which makes me wonder how many beautiful moments I almost missed while trying to earn them.
So no.
I don’t think I’m saving the good part anymore.
I think I’ll have it now.
